Research Ethics

Older peopleUWE is committed to promoting high ethical standards in the conduct of research undertaken by its staff and students. All research involving human participants and/or tissues must be subject to research ethics scrutiny by the University's Research Ethics Committee (UREC) or one of its Faculty Research Ethics Committees (FRECs). If your research falls within the scope of the Department of Health Research Governance Framework there are special requirements relating to Ethics (see Health and Social Care Research).

If your research uses human tissue and falls within the scope of the Human Tissue Act please refer to UWE’s Standard Operating Procedures for Research Using Human Tissue.

UWE's Policy on Research Ethics

The University's policy on research ethics Research Ethics Policy and Procedures is regulated by the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC), chaired by Professor Julie Kent, which reports to the Research Committee of Academic Board.
