Research Policy and Strategy

The University has agreed a new Research Strategy (2007) and is engaged with national consultations on the future funding of research.

The Vision - UWE has an outstanding reputation for its user-led research applicable to real world problems and conducts world-class research in clearly identified areas of strength.

Strategy Aims

Strategy Objectives

  1. To maintain the momentum that has made UWE one of the leading post-92 universities for research, enhancing the University's reputation as a research active institution with a lively and growing research culture.
  2. To embed and sustain an active research culture that is underpinned by, and embedded in, the University’s broad range of Knowledge Exchange activities and teaching excellence.
  3. To increase the attractiveness of the University to potential students, staff, collaborators and other stakeholders as an institution with a reputation for high quality, relevant and practical research.

 

The Full UWE Research Strategy (2007)

  1. To deliver excellence in selected research areas, creating critical volume and ensuring sustainability.
  2. To continue to ensure we are at the forefront of developing research that supports and is integrated with the University’s Knowledge Exchange mission, closely meeting the needs of the economy and society in general.
  3. To ensure there is an explicit, realistic and targeted investment plan in staff and infrastructure.
  4. To provide research training of the highest quality for staff and students.
  5. To ensure that the teaching curriculum and teaching methods are informed and enriched by research.
  6. To develop sustainable strategic and international partnerships for research, including ‘pooling’ research resources with other HEIs in complementary areas.

The Research Strategy Implementation Group (RSIG) has reported to the Vice Chancellor following its review of the University's research in order to identify areas of strength and potential.
